A Dwelling Place
Our Invitation
Members of the Church, immediate family, and those holding a special affinity to the church are eligible for inurnment in the Columbarium. Any questions concerning eligibility will be resolved by the Committee at its sole discretion.
Columbarium Wall
The columbarium provides a final resting place for the cremains of members and their families as well as a Memorial Band to memorialize loved ones buried or inurned elsewhere.
Companion niches will house the urns in the columbarium wall built in the Prayer Labyrinth, adjacent to the Hooks Chapel.
The Chapel provides a place for family members to gather before and after an inurnment. The beauty, serenity, and peace of the Prayer Labyrinth is conducive to quiet meditation. The site is always open and available for visitation.
ALL COME FROM DUST, AND TO DUST ALL RETURN. - ECCLESIASTES 3:20
The Concept
The Church provides nurturing care for all of life’s journey, from birth to death. Belief in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is foundational to the Christian faith, and the Church has always helped families face death with the hope of eternal life rather than with fear or despair.
Throughout the centuries, many churches have designated grounds that include a cemetery for the burial of members. The columbarium, also ancient in concept, is designed to continue that tradition in order to meet the growing trend in our society to choose cremation at the time of death and to make it possible for members to be inurned near their church home.
Both cremation and columbaria are fully acceptable within the Methodist faith tradition.
Financial Considerations
All niches can accommodate two urns. The cost of a niche is $1500 for the inurnment of two persons or $1200 for a single person. The one-time price includes the niche, urn(s), engraving of granite faceplate, and perpetual care of the site. Engraved granite plaques in the Memorial Band may be purchased for $350 to remember persons who have a connection to the church but may be buried or inurned elsewhere.
If a family’s plans change, niches can be sold back to the columbarium if funds are available. Alternatively, a niche reservation may be transferred to another person, or an unused niche can be donated for the use of a person in need.
