food ministry

For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in.”

Matthew 25:35

Granbury First is a member of the Tarrant Area Food Bank. Volunteers pick up food each week for grocery distribution by the church’s food ministries. Volunteers also donate their time at the Food Bank with their hours worked credited to Granbury First to help offset the cost of food purchases. Each week, a dedicated group of individuals pick up food from the Tarrant Area Food Bank using the Church van and trailer. On average, over 3 tons of food (6350 lbs) is brought back to Granbury for distribution. The food is delivered to 3 locations for distribution to needy families. Food is delivered to the Brazos River Baptist Church (BRA) in Southeast Hood County, Ruth’s Place in Oak Trail Shores (OTS) west of Granbury, and the Church Food Pantry. We are a Partner Agency of Tarrant Area Food Bank. The population of the 13 north central Texas counties that is served by Tarrant Area Food Bank (including Hood county) totals 2.86 million residents. Almost 418,000 of these Texans live in extreme poverty and often do not have enough to eat.

Hunger is here in Hood County and we are fighting to eliminate it!

Our Church Food Pantry is open Monday-Thursday from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. We provide bags of non-perishable food items to approximately 50 families of Hood County every week. Help is made possible by the generosity and servant hearts of supporters of this important ministry. Food is also provided to our food pantry by Church members and others on a regular basis. More volunteers maintain the food pantry in the church by sorting and storing the food, as well as filling the grocery bag with food. The bags of food are distributed through the church office by our Welcome Center volunteers.

A new program began in March of 2013 and is designed to provide weekend meals for extremely needy children. Our church adopted Oak Woods Elementary in Granbury. The meals provided are healthy and nutritious! A  committee purchases, packages, and delivers the meals on Thursday afternoons to Oak Woods. The meals are privately given to the students whom the principal, teachers, nurse, and counselor have selected for this program. Monetary donations fund the Kid’s Weekend Meals.

If you are interested in helping in any way with this ministry, please contact the church office at 817-573-5573.

Several area Churches, Food Pantries, and supporters sponsor food distribution on the 1st Friday of every month, which takes place at the our Church garage. Food is distributed to over 300 families each month.

In addition to our Church Food Pantry, we also have Food distributions at Brazos River Acres  (BRA) & Oak Trail Shores (OTS). Food distribution happens on Tuesday afternoons at both locations. Our food distribution for the OTS Area is Ruth’s Place. Approximately 120 families are served by this ministry each Tuesday. At BRA, each week food is provided for about 150 families each week. Our Sandwich Ministry meets weekly in the church kitchen and each person brings bread, bologna, cheese, cookies, or plastic bags as a personal donation to the ministry. Over 100 sandwiches are prepared and then delivered to BRA to be distributed with their weekly groceries.
